New Product Review: Blow Mane Tame Soft Pomade

Ultra light and grease free cream defines and controls your style all day. Strengthens and adds a healthy shine without residue.

Ingredients: Aqueous infusion of Chamomile, Rosemary and Sage, Castor Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Vegetable Glycerin, Steryl Alcohol, Modified Corn Starch, Isoprophyl Palmate, Lanolin, Meadowfoam Seed oil, PPG-5-Ceteth-20, Hibicus Protein, Wheat Protein, Baobab protein, Gylcoyl Sterate Phenyl Trimethicone,
Propylene Gycol, Iodopropynl Butycarbamate, Diazolidinyl, Urea, Fragrance, Litsea Cubeba Essential Oil.

So, as summer breaks every dawn in Fort Lauderdale it becomes harder to breathe, let alone keep the frizz away.

Pomade are great ways to slick down my new growth, but its so hard to one that is organic and easy to use. The pomades I used in the past were Redken Water Wax, Lets Jam! and Paul Mitchell Slick Works. None of them worked the way I wanted them; t
hey were either too stiff, too gloopy or runny. They certainly didn't hold up in hot weather so I had hot liquid dripping down my face.

I know I've posted before about Blow Salon in Manhattan, and I also have a contest going on right now, but I needed to rave about their soft pomade. It actually happens to be a wonderful and beneficial product.

I use this to smooth down my edges so my blowouts look sleek or to tame my curls. I loved the silkiness of the texture; I didn't have to rub my hands together seventy times fast just to work it through my hair.

The first time I used it I did find the pomade hard to wash out, but I d slathered my hair as if it were a light moisturizer. Although the product is very nourishing ( all those proteins....marvelous), I wouldn't use it this way again. The Mane Tame should be used sparingly.

The smell is very nice and fresh. I was a bit freaked when I saw the white potion because I thought it was Shea butter-based, which can have a very greasy smell on your hair. Instead, the Mane Tame smell of the beach. Not citrus-y but floral and aquatic. The scent pretty much left after I went outside, so it didn't clash with my perfume.

I would recommend the Mane Tame soft pomade for razor-cut ends, short styles or curly girls who want a soft, shiny holds.

New Product Review: Luminess Air

Megan Fox does it. So does Aisha Tyler. Natalie Portman, too. Even the Mowry twins are getting in on airbrushed makeup.

Airbrushed makeup is now a staple in the entertainment field and for films. With the popularity of HD televisions, stars want to look naturally glowing and dewy. They certainly do not want you see all sixteen layers of makeup on their skin and detectable foundation lines are so embarrassing. Some airbrush sessions cost over a thousand dollars, so imagine wanting to look gorgeous everyday at that price. In one week alone you could go broke!
Liquid makes up tends to oxidize quickly, forcing you to have to constantly touch-up your skin. Powder makeup just fakes off or get caught in between creases.Luminess can last an entire day without me having to worry about reapplying. Imagine having a brilliant conversation with someone but the only thing on your mind is whether your makeup is rubbing off and smearing all over someone else's clothes.

Airbrushing can be used to spread temporary tanners and bronzers unto the skin. Spray tanners can add up, especially if you are getting sessions every week. With this unstable economy and the demanding schedule most of us twenty-somethings have , who can afford to take time out of their day and money out of their pockets to drive to the tanning salon?

The coverage is builds with each application and the cosmetics come in a water-based mineral formula, completely unique to any other brand. I can blend the colors to get my perfect match for my unique skin tone and I don't have to bother with replace application tools, such as brushes and sponges. It washes right off with soap and water so the foundations won't clog pores.

Luminess can even give you highlights in your hair for a big night out. The last time I had blonde highlights, they were garish and my hair became so damaged. I don't ever want to go through that again. But, with Luminess I just spray the color right onto my hair and it washes out with shampoo. The versatility and safety of this technique is an added plus.

Check out this video below to see how the makeup artist uses the Luminess system on her client.

How Does She Get Her Look? Kristen Davis @ SATC London Premiere

Charlotte York-Goldenblatt (played by Kristen Davis) was always my favorite gal on Sex And The City. Her congenial attitude mixed with an Obsessive Compulsive need for perfection made her the true riot of the show. This blue-blooded Connecticut miss was born to Sandra Whitehead York and Dr. Stephen Foster York, spent her college years as a prim-and-proper sorority girl, and entertained us all with her search for the "knight in shining armor"-- who she assumed would be tall, dark and handsome. Little did she know she would fall passionately in love with Harry Goldenblatt-- fat, bald, and clumsy. I swooned when he professed his love for her and I anticipate Friday to see what happiness life will bring for them.

Charlotte loves to look girly at all times. Her hair is always in Veronica Lake waves, sharp chignons and rolls. She never looks unraveled and her makeup is always fresh and pristine.Next time you are in The Big Apple, stop by the Blow Styling Salon, the fast-food of blowouts. Get pampered with their custom hair products created solely for the shiniest, sleekest hair imaginable. Stylist will even come to you and doll up your hair wherever you are. Get a gift card and set of their hair care line.

She loves to pair up rosy pink cheeks with a nude lip, showing off her congeniality. Benefit introduces their new Posietint, a brighter and lighter shade to the famed red cheek and lip stain. The color stays on all day, but has a color that doesn't smear to dark to wear in the daytime. You can use it over your eyes, cheeks and lips for that permanently "shocked" look.
.For a limited time only, get a custom Hanky Panky thrrrob-inspired thong as a free gift with any $65 purchase. Enter promo code HANKYPAN at checkout. Available to customers with US addresses only. Limited one per customer, while supplies last. Not valid with any other offer.

Charlotte is all about old-fashion romance, so she always pay attention to the tiniest detail and how it related to the "rules of love." Invest in luxury perfume such as Bvlgari Omnia Amethyste. This fragrance has notes of Bulgarian Rosewood, Heliotrope, and Iris, each exuding grace and femininity.Brand name Perfumes, up to 70% OFF at FragranceNet.com

Charlotte's most noticeable physical attribute are her large doe-eyes that show off her youthful charm. Keep dark circles from ruining your night out with DermaDoctor's Eye Spy Daily Treatment and Neutralizer. New Product Alert: Bumble And Bumble Creme De Coco Masque

It is no secret that I am a Bumble And Bumble fanatic. Nothing works as well on my hair as their conditioners. I recently returned to the Alojoba conditioner because its the only one that gives my hair slip after months of roots poking through. De-tangling with this product is like cutting frozen butter with a hot knife. It makes the perfect leave-In because keeps my tresses hydrated all day.
The Deeep Treatment is
seriously the best moisturizing and strengthening conditioner on the market. The smell is remarkable,it tames flyways, and elongates the natural portion of my hair while keeping the relaxed part from snapping off.
The only problem was the price. The treatment alone is $28 and only at 5 oz. a bottle... it just got too expensive for my collegiate budget.

I tried the sample size of the Creme De Coco Conditioner (rinse out) about a year ago and it wasn't too bad. I loved that it was very thick and rich. It also left the smell of Vanilla and Coconuts in my hair ( both happen to be my two favorite scents).
This bigger bottle contains almost the same ingredients, except now with a cocktail of tropical butters as the base: Mango, Murumuru, Macadamia Nut oil and Shea butter. Mmm! Sounds Yummy! It also promises to soften my new growth, leaving it silky without weighing it down. I personally trust them with this promise because I've never had my hair be as smooth as with Bb. Deeep Treatment or conditioners.

I cannot wait for this product to hit the market.

I can stretch my touch-up time for months with their entire line.

Its Protein Time!

http://www.lotioncrafter.com/store/files/thumbs/t_16295.jpg

I gave an overview about the importance of protein a while back but I'm going to go in depth with a particular kind of protein. I have seen Silk Amino Acids (or Silk proteins/extracts) pop up all over the hair care market. It seems to be the latest "it" marketing. SAA claims to have a smaller molecular weight than other proteins, allowing it to strengthen hair from the inside out.. Its also supposed to moisturize hair and give it a much smoother appearance over time. Basically, silk makes hair...well... silkier.

I recently purchased a small bottle of the stuff from LotionCrafters after hearing great reviews for years about this cosmecuetical ingredient. It came in a small 2 oz. vial/bottle. I added it to my Modern Organics Product Extreme Moisture Conditioner (along with Shealoe butter, Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Hibiscus Extract and Orchid Extract).

So far, I've noticed a slight silkiness in my hair, but I cannot say it deposited back into my strands. I did an ApHogee pak this past weekend so it will be long before I can get my moisture levels back up. I did not notice a big change in shine, either. I want to experiment with more recipes before I can assume success with this new ingredient.

I want to thank the folks at Hairzing for this wonderful product. The Hair Zing is the cutest and most sophisticated way to style a wash n' go on relaxed hair. It makes early morning styling so easy and I don't have to fiddle with fifty-million clips, pins and elastics. All in one. Is Mineral Makeup Just Made Up?

"Natural, " "Pure," "Safe" are the hot new buzzwords popping up all over your local beauty isle. Cosmetics so natural and pure you can sleep in them? Whoa! That's a pretty bold claim. But, companies are not afraid to bank on it. With talk of Global Warming and Eco-conscience sending the world in a panic everyone is trying to become more green-friendly and aware of the items that touch their hair and skin.

Mineral makeup is supposed to contain all natural elements from the earth, broken down into the smallest particles so as to be absorbed into and help heal the skin.
But, according to WebMD article I found, these new lines or mineral-laden products can either be the best thing smoking or the greatest beauty scam of all time.

Not all of these Mineral come from the Earth and some can actually exacerbate your problems.
Bismuth oxychloride, the main stuff that gives your skin the "glow" while using mineral makeup, is a byproduct of lead and copper processing.

"Bismuth oxychloride is considered a skin irritant and can cause itching and rashes and in large amounts it can cause cystic acne as well – it's one of the ingredients you should try to avoid if you have acne or Rosacea or sensitive skin,"
~ Dr. Katherine Frew of Juva Skin and Laser Center and MediSpa, New York City.
Some mineral-based cosmetics still have binders, colorants and preservatives such as parabens. I did a quick search on Cosmetic Safety Database and found several brands marketing themselves as "bare," anything but. Elizabeth Arden Bare Perfection Flawless Finish Foundation got a 7-rating for the frangrance and preservatives. M.A.C. Mineralized Skin Finish is linked to cancer and reproductive toxicity.

Even those sneaky sprites at Bare Escentuals was caught red-handed profiting with a paraben-and-cancer-inducing line of foundations and powders.Tsk,tsk!

The idea of mineral makeup itself can be a cause for alarm.Breaking down the molecules to tiny particles can cause toxic reactions!
"Minerals like zinc and titanium are safe when applied to healthy skin but in a micronized nanoparticle form, there remains a concern, particularly when applied to damaged skin, or when inhaled,"
~
Jane Houlihan,
research director of consumer watchdog agency,
The Environmental Working Group in Washington
.

I did a quick search on Cosmetic Safety Database and found several brands marketing themselves as "bare" are anything but. Elizabeth Arden Bare Perfection Flawless Finish Foundation got a 7-rating for the frangrance and preservatives. M.A.C. Mineralized skin finished was linked to cancer and reproductive toxicity.

Even those sneaky sprites at Bare Escentuals got caught red-handed profiting with a paraben and cancer-inducing line of foundations and powders.

Not to mention, the main ingredients in mineral makeup can easily be found in any other cosmetic formulation. Dr. Ben Kasminsky, a pharmaceutical chemist and author of
Beyond Botox: 7 Secrets for Sexy, Ageless Skin, calls mineral makeup "a genius marketing plan." He says zinc, titanium oxide and mica have been around in foundations, blushes, and eyeshadows forever.
Right oh! I found several companies redistributing the same ole stuff they've been selling for years under the guise of "mineral." Don't believe me? Vincent Longo's tinted moisturizer, Almay Smartshade, Burt's Bees Natural Vanishing Face Powder and Covergirl TruBlends all had the same ingredients. The first two(non- "bare")--with their preservative-using asses-- and the last two were "mineral" cosmetics. Each contain either titanium dioxide, talc or some iron minerals.
So, the lesson of today, ladies? You can fool some of the people some of the time. You can fool most of the people all of them time. But, you cannot fool Ms. LeAnne...none of the time. You're not going to die if you don't switch to mineral cosmetics right away because this gunk is no more purer than bovine fecal matter. I'm not discouraging anyone from buying mineral makeup, but don't let people sell you snake oil in a can and call it "natural" just to amuse your palatial desire for innovation.

Anthony Dickey Hair Rules Line

Anthony Dickey, author of Hair Rules!, has expanded his curly hair techniques from bookstores to cosmetics isle. His team of stylists and hair enthusiasts alike managed to finally put their ideas inside of a bottle with his new line of products by the same name as the book.Dickey wants to encourage curly heads to embrace their god-given texture and maximize its potential and he's often remark about the small market for kinky, wavy, curly textures.
"Typically, products geared to the kinkiest of textured hair have been relegated to their own special section in the drugstore aisle and can be boiled down to two types: those that chemically alter the hair and those that try to tame it with greasy or waxy ingredients. and the products marketed to non-kinky curly hair don't fare much better; many of them cause extreme dehydration. these products reflect a one-dimensional approach to kinky, curly and wavy hair, and none of them address the multiple textures of an ethnically diverse world."
These products are dedicated to helping consumers get the best out of their curls without mega breakage. (These products can also be used in relaxed or straight hair). The line contains organic ingredients and has everything you need to get the most results from your curly hair, from clarifying shampoo to a deep conditioner. The Quench deep conditioner contains a melange of Avocado extracts, Jojoba and Shea butter.
The leave-in is a smooth emulsion of honey, ginger root, lemon and Gardenia (gosh that sounds as if it smells divine). There is an Aloe-Grapefruit shampoo and one without sulfates for gentle everyday cleansing. I may have to try this one out to see if its as good as the website says it is. If any of you have used these products, leave me a quick ditty in the comments box.

I have actually heard great things about Nioxin from hairstylists and hair-enthusiasts alike. Apparently people have seen growth after using the entire line and a thicker diameter of each hair strands. I would love to try it one day but I have to get enough money to purchase the entire line. I'm not sure if you can use them independently of one another and see the same results.

How Does She Get Her Look? Erykah Badu-Annie

I was up at 4 A.M (on the dot) because insomnia's tearing me apart. Now, normally I don't do this (talk about my personal life, that is) but... a particular Q.T. (short for Quite Taste-taay, ow!) was on my mind so the thoughts ravished me head until I had no choice but to hop out of this slumber of mine. Overactive imaginations, coupled by a Lavender button downs and shoulder-length dreads keeps me with bags under me eyes. And don't forget the belt. I love a thick, brown leather belt. Purrr! Nonetheless (before this post gets wild-- Safari-style.) VH1 Soul--one of my fave channels since 2001-- was playing reruns of Soul Stage. This time they showcased Miss Erykah Badu, the famous Southern Belle gone horribly Nubian, corrupting all that is lacy, pristine and born below the Mason-Dixon line. Every time this song comes on I flip because its hilarious and it exemplifies a side of Erykah that drives us to the store for her latest--sassy to where you wanna give her a giant hug and a quick spank of the butt. Here's the video for "Annie" and a quick flip on how to get this bronzed goddess's organic, don't-give-a-sweet-tea-about-your-Chanel-but-if-your-give-it-to-me-for-free-than-oh-well swag. video.vh1.com

Review: Modern Organic Products Extreme Moisture

MOP - Extreme Moisture Treatment

I'm going to make this short, sweet and simple: LOVED it!
I made my weekly rounds at Gables Beauty Supply (I know those women must be so frustrated with me snooping around their store) and one of the stylists recommended this product to me. M.O.P. is not a line I am unfamiliar with; I see it often when I go to Trade Secret but I always thought it was for specifically designed for men. Here's a little back story in case you've never heard of the line:

M.O.P. stands for (M)odern (O)rganic (P)roduct, and for good reason, too. The products are Certified organic (which is a big feat because the industry is cracking down on those who lie about their products being purely organic). The same man who owns American Crew ( hair care for men) started M.O.P., which will explain why I always see it next to the tiny obscure section for men in beauty shoppes. David Raccuglia created Modern Organics Products in 1998 after consumers started demanding hair and skin care made of natural homegrown goodness. Why are the words "Modern" and Organic" even touching shoulder-to-shoulder in the same title? This company has made it their mission to merge the two by using technology to extract and bottle the best of nature and place it into the conscious consumers' hand. The chemists are on a consummate mission to reduce synthetic materials to a usage to a minimum.

*Plug over. Time for the review*
Saturday the stylist in the shop said it was the best deep conditioner (without any protein) that she had in the stock.
I went home and mixed it with Coconut Milk And Coconut Oil. This conditioner has no odor, so don't assume because it has these wonderful fruit ingredients your head is going to smell like Bath And Body Works gone mad.
The conditioner came in a plastic squeeze tube and was very easy to use. No fancy packaging.
The ingredients list was seriously enticing. Extreme Moisture contains every natural ingredient that I normally have to add to my treatments just so I can get good results: Glycerin, Olive Oil, Aloe Very juice, Banana Pulp, Molasses, Coconut bi-products. I'm not exactly sure what apple juice and fruit sugars do to the hair, but I certainly liked it.

This conditioner gave me so much slip, little to no breakage and moisture galore. I also liked that days after using it I could still see it working on my hair. My hair wasn't parched or too heavy after three days.

I know I'm going to keep this as my moisturizing staple. After all, Shea butter, Castor oil and other organic ingredients cost mucho grande bucks. It also take time and knowledge before one can make their own hair products. If you're a girl-on-the-go like myself, you don't have time to waste cooking up Witches Brew for your head. Leave all of that to the pros and just buy this conditioner.

Guess what? If you go to the official website and click under Style Tips, you can get recipes for mixing the products in the line to get your desired look.

How Does She Get Her Look? Cassie Ventura

And, no! It doesn't have anything with her being half Asian. Cassie Ventura sprays bullets all over these other celebrities when it comes to hair. Beyonce could hire the best Hibiscus-and-Coconut-Milk fed Indian women on the planet to make her the most luxurious Remy wig and her head still couldn't hold a torch to Cassie's.
Soft, straight with a slight bump and a curl at her ends? Maybe in a trumped-up Bouffant?

Either way, she keeps everyone guessing what she going to do with it next.

So, what exactly gives Cassie that extra-extra to reign? That jet black color and flossy shine.

You can get Cassie's color without having to dye-fry your hair. Try an organic, vegan, natural hair dye.

Heffa! Don't you suck you're teeth at me or roll your eyes! I am VERY serious!

Natural herbs have been used for centuries to treat
common hair ailments and dye hair . Look in ancient text, such as the Koran and the Bible and you will find old beauty practices conducted with nothing more than what grows from the ground.
If you want to dye your hair to Cassie's shade without the harsh chemicals, use Henna or Indigo powders. All those many of us have heard of using Henna and other herbal powders but we often think of Hippies mixing concoctions and singing songs about their long flowing hair and, let's be honest--that thought is just plain frightening. You have to add the coffee grounds just the right way; have the right amount of organic oils; let it steep for a couple of days. You certainly don't want to mix the powders the wrong way and end up with a result that is so horrendous you'd have to take that walk of shame down to the salon and explain what you did to your hair.

A European company called Avea created a certified organic beauty and personal care line, Logona. Logona just so happen to have a hair coloring product made completely of Henna and its accompanying powders all mixed into one easy package. No ammonia. No fuss and no muss. Perfect color without all the breakage.

If you visit the website, there you will find a color chart to compare your current color to it's possible outcome.

Hey! Here's a little something extra you may not know about Henna: it can strengthen your hair and make it glossy, healthier and more voluminous. You can apply neutral Henna to your hair as a Reconstructor.
You can order both or these products and any of the other hair color creams by this brand from here.

I personally would like to try this product, especially after having a bad experience with Bigen powder. Bigen does not strengthen your hair and its in no way organic. I also heard the Bigen powder dyes really should not be used on hair after recently receiving a touch-up. I forgot the reasons why, but I will do research on the product and post it here.

If you already have hair that is colored and want a more holistic way to retain your color longer, I've listen some more products you can try, such as pomades and shampoos.
