African American hair is considered the toughest of hair types, when in fact it is the most sensitive and vulnerable to crime. The major difference from the thicker outer layer, which is where the hair has its kinky property. African American hair is difficult to maintain and stay healthy, but it is feasible. With the right tips and techniques, African American women may have soft, long and beautiful hair.

Shampooing and conditioning
There are so many different shampoos and conditioners on the market; it is difficult to know which one is best for African American hair. Products can be made only for African American hair, but it does not mean they are the best. Actually there are several types of products to be used at different times.

African American hair does not hold moisture very well, so it is easy to break and shed. Aussie moist, Cru00E8me of Nature and Mizani are good moisturizing products.
After a while, the same products are starting to cause accumulation. At least twice a month, you need a good shampoo to cleanse the hair. Any shampoo will do, or you can add a little baking soda to your regular shampoo. Clarifying shampoos strip the hair of everything, even including moisture, so back it up with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.

Relaxed hair is shampooed with protein shampoo at least once a week. During the relaxed process is keratin protein is broken down. Protein shampoo replaces keratin in the hair and protects it from breaking.

Treatments
In order to keep African American hair healthy, certain treatments are done regularly. Protein treatments are always recommended. Hair is 88% protein, and must be restored and built to stay healthy and reduce crime.

If done incorrectly, however, the protein also adds offense. Limit heat when doing protein treatments. If the treatment is left in too long, the hair becomes brittle and hard. Do not comb or brush your hair when it is in this state. Re-wet hair and rinse treatment before combing it. Also follow the protein treatment with a moisturizing treatment.

Styling and Maintenance
Styling and maintenance is easy and simple with the right tools. Use larger tooth combs to avoid breakage. Moisturize your hair twice a day with oil-or water-based moisturizer. Sleep on satin pillows, or with a satin or silk scarf around his head, which helps to retain moisture in your hair while you sleep.
